Wells, Sheppard strong in women’s softball win

A strong pitching performance from Jillian Wells and some plate prowess from Claudette Sheppard helped the Rapid Power Bees to a 14-4 decision over the West Side Monarchs in Corner Brook Molson Ladies Fastpitch Softball League action at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Wells scattered nine hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking three in the winning effort.

Melanie Patey and Laura Prosper shared pitching duties for the losing side. Patey gave up nine hits in four innings of work, with three walks and two strikeouts. Prosper allowed seven hits through three innings. She walked four and struck out five.

Sheppard was 2-for-3 with the bat, scoring twice and driving in two runs. She was walked once. Nicole Goulding was 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Kayla Brake went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Prosper produced three runs for the Monarchs in a 3-for-3 night at the dish.
