Brake perfect at the dish in women’s softball win

CORNER BROOK  Coolene Brake went 5-for-5 driving in four runs to lead Whelan’s Gate to an 18-3 victory over the West Side Monarchs Tuesday night.

Peggy Colbourne supported the offensive surge going 2-for-2 with two walks in the Corner Brook Molson Ladies Softball  League contest.

Katie Evans shared the spotlight with three hits in four at-bats for the winners who scored five runs in the first, third and fifth  innings at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.

Amanda Legge was the top hitter for the black and gold going 2-for-4 with a run, while Hilary Eddison and Nikita Fudge both went 1-for-2 with a walk.

League action resumes tonight with Whelan’s Gate tangling with the Rapid Power Sports Bees, who are fresh off a silver-medal performance at provincials last weekend in the city. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field.
