IRMA, Alta.  — Tyler Wells went 1-for-1 with a double for Kelly’s Pub Canadians in a 9-3 loss to the Owen Sound Selects Wednesday.

The loss dropped the Newfoundland and Labrador representatives to a 1-4 record at the 2014 Canadian U21 men’s softball championships in Irma, Alta. Wednesday afternoon.

Wells, a Cox’s Cove native seeing limited action with the team, improved his batting average to .667 with two hits in three at-bats heading into a later game Wednesday against the Yorkton Blue Jays.

The utility player, who played three innings at second base against the Owen Sound squad, went 0-1 in Tuesday night’s 15-0 four-inning lost to the Saskatoon Diamondbacks.

Ed Hefferan went 1-for-2 with a walk to lead the way for Kelly’s in Wednesday’s loss to the Selects. He was also 1-for-2 in a losing cause against the Diamondbacks.

Kelly’s could only muster seven hits off winning pitcher Matt Wardrop, while committing three errors.

A playoff berth appears to be in jeopardy for the Wells and company.
