Kelly’s Canadians finish sixth overall at nationals

IRMA, Alta.  — Tyler Wells finished up his national softball debut with Kelly’s Pub Canadians with a .333 average.

The Cox’s Cove native, in a limited role with the provincial U21 men’s sotball team, went 2-for-6 with a double at the 2014 national U21 men’s softball championship in Irma, Alta.

Kelly’s Pub bowed out of the national event with a 10-6 loss to the Saskatoon Diamondbacks in its second playoff game to finish in sixth place overall.

Phil Corbett was the top hitter for Kelly’s going 2-for-4 with a homer.

Kelly’s got a shot at second playoff game after a 11-6 triumph over Quebec Saturday afternoon.

Nick Pittman was the top hitter for Kelly’s in that contest driving in three runs with a homer highlighting a 3-for-4 performance.

    Nice to see the bias that Dave Kearsey shows towards a sport that is non-existent in the city continues to show through. Never see coverage of "slow pitch" even though it has 15 teams. 1 Player from the region involved in fastpitch with a mediocre team from NL gets about 8 or 9 stories. Great job for the sports "editor".
