Western U-14 soccer team takes both games against Feildians

CORNER BROOK — Western soccer team had the hometown advantage at the provincial under-14 male soccer play held during weekend.

Western hosted the Feildians of St. John's at the Wellington Street Sports Complex and won both games. Sunday morning, Chris Dobbin scored at 41st minute and that was all Western needed to take the contest 1-0.

In the first game Saturday, Western defeated the capital squad 2-0.

Kirk Penney was the scored both goals for Wester at 45 and 48 minutes.

The Feildians were kept off the scoresheet all weekend and Western's coach, Colin Lynch, was thrilled about the team's effort.

"It's great to get two shutouts at home," Lynch said. "Our team defence and goaltending were superb."

There were very few moments during the games where the Feildians players managed to manufacture a goal-scoring opportunities, said Lynch.

He said his players have been working hard on their defence, which helped lead them to the weekend sweep.
