ST. JOHN’S  If opening weekend is an early indicator, the boys from the west will need to find a way to produce offence on the provincial stage.

Western couldn’t muster any goals in its opening weekend of the provincial Under-14 boys soccer league in a brace of losses against St. John’s at King George V Pitch in St. John’s over the weekend.

Western fell 3-0 to St. John’s Sunday morning to fall to 0-2 in the early going of the 2014 provincial league schedule.

Liam Chislett, Jacob Grant and Harry Carter scored for St. John’s Sunday morning as Dylan Critchon picked up his second-straight shutout of the weekend.

Critchton stopped all scoring chances in a 2-0 win Saturday night as Grant and Chislett provided the goals for the winning side.

Western will try to get on winning track when they host the Mount Pearl Soccer Association for a two-game series June 21-22 in Corner Brook.
