The Steers Insurance Curling Rangers rode a pair of second-half goals to a 4-2 triumph over the Sorrento Tactics FC Wednesday night in Corner Brook Molson Senior Men’s Soccer League action at Wellington Street Sports Complex.
Chris Griffin and Ben Maynard supplied the second-half goals, while Chad Jones and Colin Lynch struck early and late in the first half for the Rangers.
Steve Huxter and Adam Anderson replied for the Tactics.
Jones opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, giving the Rangers the quick 1-0 lead, but Huxter evened it for the Tactics in the 24th minute.
Lynch scored in the 45th minute to put the Rangers back up by one.
Griffin’s goal, the eventual game-winner, came at the 54-minute mark, before Maynard made it a 4-1 game in the 68th.
Anderson cut the lead to two at the 72-minute mark, but that was all the offence the Tactics could muster.
Leading the league are the 4-0-2 Hawks, while the Rangers are in second at 2-0-4.
The West Side Monarchs occupy third place with a 2-1-2 record, while the Investors Group Under-18s are at 1-2-2. The Tactics fall to 0-4-2, ahead of Stephenville’s mark of 0-2-0.
