Corner Brook -
Council and staff have received the consultant's recommendations on the path Corner Brook should take for leisure and recreation over the next decade.
The in-depth public consultation process has long been concluded and Tract Consulting Inc. has completed its report based on what it has heard from residents and stakeholder groups in the community.
"From my initial review, I think the public will be pleased with what they see," Mike Dolter, the city's chief administrative officer, said. "We were generally pleased with what we saw.
"It's a fairly comprehensive document, and it will give council some of the tools they need to move forward and start making some changes and making some improvements."
The general public will have an opportunity to see the draft of the leisure/recreation master plan April 27 at 7 p.m. in a meeting at the Pepsi Centre. Their views and opinions will be considered by city representatives in moving forward towards the overall plan.
"As far as this report goes, this is the public's final chance to have some direct input into it," Dolter said. "That is critical because this report itself is all about hearing from the public and making sure we are going in the right direction. It is very important to have people come out and say what they think. If there is positive things that is super. If there are things we have not considered, then that should be brought up as well."
The chief administrative officer said an implementation document, based on the master plan, is expected within the next few months. However, actual action on the items within the plan will depend on a number of factors, such as availability of funding and priorities.
The master plan will provide a focused strategy for the development and delivery of recreation/leisure facilities, programs and services to the residents and visitors of Corner Brook for the next 10 years.
