Cold and damp weather conditions didn't discourage participants in the annual Spring Chicken race Sunday at Strawberry Hill.
Kirby Hamlyn of Masssey Drive pedalled across the finish line on the muddy surface in a time of two hours, 4.28 minutes for top honours in the 18-kilometre trek.
Steve May of Humber Village placed second overall with a final clocking of 2:08.05, while third place was claimed by Billy Newell of Corner Brook with a final time of 2:10.01.
Melissa O'Brien of Corner Brook was the fastest rider in the 12-km female division with a final clocking of two hours, 11.27 minutes.
While the event was geared toward cycling enthusiasts, there was also a five-km run offered to those who were interested.
The young riders in the Corner Brook area also shared the spotlight in the Spring Chicken, which kicked off the three-race Mudslide Series planned for the summer with the next event planned for May 30 in Pasadena and clewing up with race June 6 at Tipping's Pond in Massey Drive.
Aaron Mercer, Jay Miller and Blake Humphries rounded out the top three in the Dirt Squirt Sport division.
Noah Parsons was the fastest rider in the Dirt Squirt Expert category, while Drew Cornick placed second and Ayden O'Neill captured third place.
