Heatherton -
Robin Barnes will be aiming for the bull's-eye when she competes against dart players from around the world.
Barnes was a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Dart team which recently returned from the Canadian Youth Dart Championships in Quebec.
Barnes, the 13-year-old daughter of Roy and Sherry Barnes of Heatherton, placed first in the World Masters qualifier. Along with Trevor Hovey of Alberta, she will represent Canada at the Youth World Masters in Briglinton, England Sept. 4-6.
Barnes is the first female youth dart player from this province to win in the 23-year history of the event.
Barnes and Samantha MacNeil of Flat Bay won bronze in the junior girls doubles division in Quebec, while MacNeil won another bronze in junior girls singles.
Jordan Bennett of Stephenville Crossing and Jeremy Miller of Marystown won bronze in senior boys' doubles. Barnes and Miller made it to the medal round, only to fall short in the quarter-finals.
The other members of the team were Brandon Ploughman of Flat Bay, Brandon Gillam of Heatherton; Stephanie Noseworthy of Robinsons and Jasmine Gale of Robinsons. They all played extremely well and only narrowly missed the medal rounds.
In team competition, the Newfoundland team won silver by beating Alberta in the preliminary round and British Columbia in the semifinals, before losing to New Brunswick in the championship game.
