CORNER BROOK After more than 50 years on Mount Bernard Avenue, Humber Motors Ford is moving.

Joe Antle, general manager of the dealership, confirmed on Monday that the business is destined for the Confederation Drive area.

While no signs have been erected at the site, Antle said the new dealership will be located next to Kent, just across from City Tire.

The dealership, which also includes locations in Stephenville, Port aux Basques and Forteau, was purchased in June 2012 by Antle’s brother Paul Antle, a businessman and candidate in the race to lead the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador.

“Right now we just started the groundwork on it, but we are putting up a 23,000 square foot facility,” said Joe Antle.

He said Marco Group of Companies has been awarded the contract for the project and site preparation has included the installation of water and sewer infrastructure.

Joe Antle estimates it will be about a year and half before the new facility is completed.

“We’re hoping to be into it in January or February of 2015 if everything goes well.”

Once completed, he said the new facility will feature “a state of the art Ford millenium building,” and continue to offer new and used vehicle sales and service.

Joe Antle said the new facility will see the dealership located in the same area as other competing brands.

“It’s easy access,” he said of the location. “It’s better visibility all the way around for everybody.”

As of right now, Joe Antle said the company hasn’t made any plans for what will become of the current location. Prior to it being sold to Antle, Humber Motors Ford had been owned for 35 years by local businessman Derek Young.
