When Rogers first opened Christopher’s Fine Quality Clothing on Broadway he used paper bags for customers’ purchases.
“But the paper got so expensive,” he said.
With just a hint of disdain in his voice he answers the question of what he uses now with “plastic.”
It’s a practice he feels will one day be banned by legislation, but it’s also one he’d like to change anyway, and he sees a group opportunity in doing so.
Rogers was recently elected a director on the board of the Corner Brook Downtown Business Association, but before that, he had approached the board with the idea of doing some sort of a bulk order on reusable shopping bags for use by businesses in the downtown area.
“I just threw it out there,” he said.
The idea would be to do a bulk buy of reusable cloth shopping bags to be shared among member businesses. “It would be a lot less money for all the members then,” said Rogers.
The bags would have the association’s logo on them and it’s possible individual businesses could also add their logos.
“We want to promote the downtown more and that would be a good chance for us to do that,” said Rogers.
He’s already been in contact with a supplier and has had some samples sent in for the association to look at. And he said it’s possible they may also look at a paper bag.
Right now he said the association is throwing the idea out to members to find out their thoughts. The idea was discussed at the annual general meeting and met with interest from those present.
