Collision Clinic, a local vehicle repair centre celebrating 40 years in operation this year, is expanding.

Owner Glenn Hickey has purchased Garland Auto Body in Torbay and will convert the 10,000-square-foot facility at the corner of Torbay Road and Cox Marsh Road into a Collision Clinic.

“We will renovate, rebrand and retool the facility with the state-of-the-art technology and equipment that Collision Clinic currently uses to restore today’s complex vehicles to pre-accident condition,” Hickey stated in a news release announcing the acquisition.

“The energy and skill level of the employees at our new Torbay Road location is impressive, and we are excited about having them join the Collision Clinic team of professionals.”

Collision Clinic, founded in 1978, is also located at 685 Topsail Rd. in St. John’s.

If the shoe fits

Local administration for Crombie REIT have been fairly tight-lipped about which new retailers are coming to the Avalon Mall as part of the facility’s $54.5-million redevelopment, but some secrets are just too hard to keep.

Little Burgundy, a branded footwear store targeting male and female clientele between the ages of 18 and 34, has started posting jobs ads for a first-floor location in the mall previously occupied by Alia Tanjay, between the Sephora and Carlton Cards. Anticipated opening date is this September.

Construction walls have also been erected.

The company was established in 2008 by the ALDO Group of Cos. in the Montreal neighborhood known as Little Burgundy. In 2015, the company was acquired by Nashville-based Genesco, which owns and operates nearly 2,800 retail stores around the world.

There are currently 39 Little Burgundy locations across Canada.

Peter’s Pizza going extra large

Longtime St. John’s pizzeria Peter’s Pizza is expanding.

Co-owner John Mathioudakis confirmed they are establishing a location in Clarenville and another in Gander.

Meanwhile, the Mathioudakis brothers have also purchased Mr. Jim’s Pizza Restaurant and Lounge in Mount Pearl from Andy and Lois Mavroyannis, who have decided to retire.

A source says the restaurant will keep the Mr. Jim’s name until the renovations are completed.

New call centre inbound

St. John’s will soon be home to a new call centre.

S&P Data LLC, a leading North American business service centre contracted to serve as the point of contact for customers of Fortune 500 companies, has started posting job ads in advance of arrival in St. John’s.

“We are excited to be growing our business into Eastern Canada with our brand-new call centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland,” the ads read.
The company has operations in the United States — Ohio, New Mexico, Michigan — and in Canadian cities, namely, Toronto, Hamilton, Trenton and, as of this spring, Saint John and Edmunston, N.B.
In both of the New Brunswick operations, S&P Data LLC received some assistance from the provincial government’s Opportunities NB, the Crown corporation that seeks to attract and support opportunities to expand the economy and create jobs.

The New Brunswick call centres are expected to create a total of more than 700 jobs over the next five years.
