MING’S BIGHT, NL – Anaconda Mining Inc. will be required to complete an environmental preview report (EPR) for its proposed Argyle gold mine project near Ming’s Bight on the Baie Verte Peninsula.

Among the additional information that must be included in the report is a botanical survey for rare plants, dust and noise control measures, and potential effects on Town of Ming’s Bight water supply, according to a July 6 environmental assessment bulletin from the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment.

The Argyle project calls for an open pit mine and stockpile areas for waste rock and ore materials. It’s anticipated the mine will produce approximately 405,000 tonnes of ore and 2,228,000 tonnes of waste rock over its lifespan.

Anaconda is planning to process and mill the ore at its Pine Cove Mill site.

An environmental assessment committee will be appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to Municipal Affairs and Environment Minister Andrew Parsons, and guidance regarding the information requirements to the company.

Parsons will issue guidelines to Anaconda Mining to assist with the development of the EPR.

The public will be invited to provide comments on the EPR upon its submission.
