C-CORE’s search for a new president and chief executive officer has come to a close with Paul Griffin being appointed to the position.

Griffin comes to the St. John’s-based research and development firm from Marine Atlantic, where he served as president and CEO since 2011, prior to which he was the independent Canadian federal Crown corporation’s vice president in charge of strategy and corporate affairs.

“I intend to help C-CORE build on its impressive contributions to the research, academic and business communities, provincially, nationally and internationally,” Griffin stated in a news release announcing his appointment.

Griffin’s resume of senior management experience includes time spent as the CEO of Avalon Microelectronics, president of Rutter Technologies, and president of New Tech Instruments.

"Paul has an outstanding record of successful leadership in the technology and marine transportation sectors, building sustainable relationships with diverse stakeholders in the public and private sectors,” David Oake, chair of C-CORE’s board of directors, stated in a news release.

“He has significant experience working with organizations that have capitalized on opportunities enabled by new technologies, regulatory changes and evolving markets, both at home and abroad.”

Griffin takes the reigns of the company from Mark MacLeod, who has served as interim CEO since last April. MacLeod took over for Dr. Charles Randell, who stepped down last March after over 10 years at the helm of the organization.
