An event is being held in Marystown on Friday to celebrate the start of Grieg NL’s operations in Newfoundland.
Federal, provincial and municipal government officials are slated to attend, including Premier Dwight Ball and Fisheries and Land Resources Minister Gerry Ball, along with Grieg NL owner Thomas W. Grieg.
Ocean Choice International (OCI) CEO Martin Sullivan and COO Blaine Sullivan are also expected to be on hand. OCI has an agreement in place to process farmed Atlantic salmon produced by Grieg at its fish plant in St. Lawrence.
The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment announced the release of Grieg’s Placentia Bay aquaculture project from further environment assessment – subject to a number of conditions – on Sept. 6.
The project includes a salmon hatchery in Marystown and 11 sea cages in Placentia Bay.
Friday’s event is taking place at the Marystown Hotel and Convention Centre at 12 p.m.
