The meetings are over, the members have been up to date as to the latest offer from the company, next there is a strike vote.
“Members expressed themselves loud and clear at the meetings held Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, we won’t accept any concessions,” Ron Thomas, president of local 5795 of the Steelworkers told the Aurora.
Thomas said members told the executive, Issues surrounding pensions, temporary workers, extended vacation, retirement, and other matters were not acceptable.
“People at the meeting came to the negotiating committee to congratulate them and to tell them they had their full support,” said Thomas.
Workers now have time to mull over the information before the vote that is scheduled for Friday.
Could there be a development at the eleventh hour?
That’s anybody’s guess, but it has occurred in the past.
Voting will take place from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. Friday, March 23.
Thomas told the Aurora the results of the vote should be available by 10 p.m.
“If the vote is for a strike ' picket lines will be set up immediately,” said Thomas.
The Aurora will follow the story and keep readers up to date.
