Although their family business had humble beginnings in the basement of their Port au Port, ICR Buildings Solutions has come a long ways in the past seven years.

Owned and operated by Doug and Kim Benoit, the business was named as the sixth winner of the Long Range CBDC Business Award of Distinction at the organization’s banquet on Wednesday evening that also marked CBDC Long Range’s 30th Anniversary.

“Although we haven’t been in business really all that long, this really feels like a lifetime achievement award,” Doug said of announcement. “It’s especially exciting because I wasn’t expecting it.”

Prior to starting his own business, Benoit worked for six years with Whalen Enterprises, where he drove heavy equipment and did carpentry work.

When he and wife Kim got into their own business, with the help of a loan from CBDC Long Range to get off the ground, it involved home renovations and landscaping for the first couple of years.

They then purchased Pottle Enterprises (Whitestone Group) on Prince Rupert Drive in Stephenville and moved into that location two years ago.

The business continues to grow as now they are going into equipment rental and will also be serving the West Coast selling and erecting Butler pre-engineered buildings.

Doug and Kim are assisted in the business by their 26-year old son Devon, who works in the office as an estimator.

The couple is hoping their 27-year-old son Mitchell, a trained electrician, will come on board and help out with the electrical part of the business.

“Our aim is to keep growing the family business, which continues to do well despite the downturn in the economy,” Doug said.
