Thursday night, his efforts were recognized when Marble Zip Tours received the Greater Corner Brook Board of Trade’s Business Excellence Award for Best Online Presence. The award was presented during a gala at the Glynmill Inn as part of Small Business Week.
Marble Zip Tours has been operating in Steady Brook since 2008, and started out offering zip-line tours over Steady Brook Falls. It expanded into retail, snowmobile tours and rentals, and most recently to its spider challenge high-rope course.
Even before opening the business, Flynn used the Internet to promote it.
“It takes all the parts to make a whole, and that’s what makes a good online presence,” he said. “You need your attractive website, you need your nice logo, you need your offerings such as booking online, and just make it user friendly.”
He agrees there’s nothing worse than going on a site and not being able to find what you’re looking for. Or, he adds, that you can’t find a site through Yahoo or Google searches.
Besides its website, Marble Zip Tours also has a Facebook page, Twitter account, a YouTube channel and a Google+ page. The company also hires bloggers to get its message and offerings out to the public.
“You’ve got to be found,” he said. “We’re in tourism, we’ve got a few months to make it. And people are here to spend money, so if you can’t be found ...” he said, with a shrug of his shoulders.
“It’s always nice to be recognized for the work you’re doing.”
