It’s been a long and at times challenging nearly 16 months since their store burnt in early April last year; but Bill and Christa Abbott are excited about opening in their new facility today.
It was a devastating blow to the business when Abbott and Haliburton Home Centre was completely destroyed in an early morning fire but the couple, dealer-owners of the new Abbott’s Home Building Centre, are now looking forward to opening their doors to the public.

Completely modern and improved is how Bill described the new facility that features lots of parking space, lots of display area and warehouse space, and is fully wheelchair accessible.
In the former building there was a popular gift shop called The Upper Level and Christa said the new store will also have a separate gift/home décor section located in the main store called “Front and Main,’ named after the location of the building at the intersection of Front Road and Main Road in Port au Port West.
She said there are still a lot of things to do, but this is their starting point. Plans are to make the facility bigger and better over time – to build and expand and evolve.
She said their 25 employees are now eager to get into the new building after working out of a warehouse and temporary structures since the fire took place.
The Abbott’s have a grand opening celebration for their new building planned for Sept. 27-29.
