TRINITY BAY, NL — There could be new industry on its way to Trinity Bay, as Nalcor Energy is preparing a request for proposals for the Bull Arm fabrication site.
According to Placentia West-Bellevue MHA Mark Browne, the request for proposals is set to go ahead after a previous call for expressions of interest in March. He says it was marketed to both local and global industries that could avail of the Bull Arm site to see what opportunities existed.
Browne says expressions of interest were received ranging from industrial fabrication to supply servicing and marine operations.
Bull Arm was previously the site for Exxon Mobil’s Hebron oil platform fabrication, which was completed and towed to the Grand Banks this past spring. That lease is expiring soon.
The upcoming request for proposals is a way for Nalcor to formally evaluate new potential tenants, said Browne.
“We want to be proactive in planning for the future of Bull Arm, which will generate sustainable jobs for the future, which is why I’ve been working with (Natural Resources) Minister Siobhan Coady to push Nalcor to take these steps,” Browne told the Packet on Thursday, Oct. 26.
“We’re very pleased that we’ll be hopefully in a position that Bull Arm will have a new tenant once this process is concluded.”
Browne adds that after the evaluation, the intention is for Nalcor to enter lease negotiations with one or more potential proponents that respond to this request.
