Brent Marsden, franchisee owner of the Robin’s Donuts in Corner Brook is taking over the restaurant in the airport.
“To do a second one, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity when it arose,” said Marsden, who opened the Corner Brook location just under a year ago.
Marsden takes possession of the space, currently occupied by Weston’s Concessions, on May 1. The restaurant will be closed for a few weeks for construction, and Marsden hopes to have it up and running by mid-June.
He said an engineering firm is working on the design now and the Robin’s airport location will look basically the same as the one in the Corner Brook Plaza. The glass wall currently dividing off the restaurant area will be coming down creating an open concept layout.
Planned operating hours will be daily from 3 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a possibility of going 24 hours if business warrants it.
Airport CEO Jamie Schwartz said Weston’s contract with the airport has been up for some time and the airport looked at a variety of options before deciding Robin’s would be a good fit.
“What we like about this franchise is it has a good product for the travelling public.”
He noted that Weston’s will continue to operate the airport gift shop.
