The RNC issued a public advisory Thursday evening saying one of its officers lost the loaded magazine for a duty sidearm sometime between midnight and 6 a.m.
The RNC said the lost gun magazine is designed for use with RNC issued firearms or sidearms. As a result, the lost magazine could only be used with firearms of the same make and model. However, the force did not specify which make and model the magazine was used with.
Officers from the patrol services division and police dog services, along with assistance from members of the Bay of Islands Search and Rescue, conducted a search for the magazine after it was discovered missing.
The RNC has concerns for the lost magazine and is advising anyone who may locate the magazine to contact them immediately.
Anyone who has information in relation to this incident is asked to the RNC at 637-4100 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.nlcrimestoppers.com.
The RNC said it will update the public when the magazine is found.
