Newfoundland and Labrador settles for bronze

Newfoundland and Labrador had to settle for bronze at the Atlantic Under-13 soccer championships.
The provincial Under-13 male soccer squad defeated New Brunswick 1-0 to claim bronze Sunday at the Monarchs Complex.
Tyler Kirby scored for Newfoundland and Labrador, while Corner Brook’s Zachary Taylor posted the shutout and was selected player of the game for his team.
Prince Edward Island captured the gold medal in the male division with a 1-0 win over Nova Scotia Sunday at the Wellington Street sports complex.
Meanwhile, Dominique Linehan Hall and Sara Wicks shared the shutout as Newfoundland and Labrador claimed bronze in the Under-13 female bracket with a 3-0 victory over Prince Edward Island at the Ambrose O’Reilly Memorial Field. Emily Bailey, chosen player of the game for the winners, Maria MacKay and Cassie Winsor supplied the offence for the host province.
Nova Scotia earned the gold medal in the Under-13 female championship game with a 1-0 triumph over New Brunswick at the Wellington Street sports complex.
Most Valuable Player honours for the tournament went to Becky Hanna of Nova Scotia on the female side and Sam Smiley of Prince Edward Island in the male bracket.
Most Sportsmanlike Player award winners for the tournament included Heather Adams (N&L female), Kyle Williams (N&L male), Molly Roussel (N.B. female), Ben Trail (N.B. male), Jessica Shattleburg (N.S. female), Cooper Coates (N.S. male), Alysha Corrigan (P.E.I. female) and Joel Doran (P.E. I. male).
Hard Hat award winners for the tournament included Simon Pope (N&L male), Megan Normore (N&L female), Emily Naugle (N.B. female), Blake Ross (N.B. male), Sarah Taylor (N.S. female), Aiden O’Flaherty (N.S. male), Nicole McInnis (P.E.I. female) and Liam Bitar (P.E.I. male).
