Pair from north shore charged in relation to grow-op find
CORNER BROOK CORY HURLEY The Western Star
The RCMP Corner Brook Drug Section was apparently unfazed by a “trap” when they seized 47 marijuana plants and arrested a man and woman from Irishtown-Summerside around mid-September.
In executing a search warrant at 347 Main St. in the small town on the north shore of the Bay of Islands, police found what was described as a trap made of clear fishing line with attached fish hooks, likely set to cause harm to a person.
They also located a grow operation containing 47 marijuana plants.
David Francis Legge, 35, and Trina Mary Carroll, 33, were both charged with two counts each of unlawfully producing marijuana, unlawfully possessing for the purpose of trafficking, and occupying land, which was being used for the purpose of committing another offence, that had a trap set, using clear fishing line and attached fish hooks, with intent to cause harm to a person.
Const. Jonathan Moran said the drug enforcement team executed a search warrant at that location in the town Sept. 16 and found the marijuana plants and the trap at an outside property. He would not comment further on the findings because it is a matter before the court.
Both Legge and Carroll appeared in provincial court in Corner Brook Tuesday. Legge has been approved for legal aid representation and has an appointment at the legal aid office later this month. Carroll is also applying legal aid counsel, and a request to the Crown attorney’s office for disclosure was received from the Stephenville legal aid office Monday. They are both scheduled back in court Dec. 8.
