CSI: New York actor Robert Joy to adjudicate
STEPHENVILLE Theatre patrons in western Newfoundland will be in for a treat this spring as Bay Theatre hosts the 2014 provincial drama festival in Stephenville, April 20-26.
Seven community theatre troupes, members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Drama Society, will gather for the festival, which is celebrating its 64th season.
This year, the provincial association has lined up well-known Newfoundland actor Robert Joy to adjudicate. Audiences will know him as a regular on CSI: New York.
Host Committee Chair Wade Pinhorn says plans are underway for a week of spectacular theatre performances, capped by a gala awards presentation Saturday night.
“Stephenville and the Bay St. George area are well-known for community and professional theatre,” says Pinhorn in a prepared release. “These are top quality productions. These groups have a lot of experience with community theatre and you will not be disappointed.”
Pinhorn, a Juno award-winning musician who has also chaired the ECMA board of directors, which was responsible for the planning and execution of the annual East Coast Music Awards Conference and Gala Awards Show, brings a wealth of knowledge to the planning process for the festival. The host committee is currently seeking additional volunteers to help put during the festival. It’s a great opportunity for local high school students to earn the hours they need to graduate or for adults who just want to get involved and give back to their community.
“With 100 people coming from across the province to perform and hundreds more coming to see the shows every night, this is a great business opportunity as well," Pinhorn said.
