McIvers newest and first female mayor, Susan White, takes the gavel for the first time next month. White took some time on Thanksgiving Monday to take advantage of some ripe and ready-to-pick fruit from the multi-variety backyard apples trees her father Lowell Park planted when he and wife Daisy first married 39 years ago.

The apples share backyard space with trees that bear cherries and plums that have already been harvested, preserved or shared ripe with folk who happened by.

The apples have been falling in the recent wind and responsible pickers are welcomed.
