The IHMS annual Christmas concert took place on Thursday evening. The theme for this year’s concert was “It’s Christmas Everywhere”. We would like to congratulate all of our students on a wonderful performance.
Our grade six to Level 3 students had a wonderful trip to St. John’s last weekend for the Provincial Intermediate Skills Challenge. The Lil Hyrdos team consisting of William Bennett, Jacob Bursey, Myles Calbert, Max Chrappa, Mikayla Mugford, Emily Murley, Emily Payne and Graham Zilkowsky placed second in the Robot Performance Category and placed third in the Robot Design Award. The Aquabots team of Keira Clarke, Rebecca Janes, Kira McCarthy, Isabelle Mercier, Rosemary Owolabi, Trinity Rouse and Reyd Ward won the Rising Star Award, the Project Innovation Award and were silver medalists. Both teams competed in a field of sixteen teams.
The Helping Hands project has officially ended. We would like to thank all of our families for their support of this initiative.
The Student Leadership Council has begun collecting items for Stockings for Seniors, The Christmas Food Drive, and the Firefighters Toy Drive.
Stars of the Week
Congratulations to Noah Colbourne, Luke Coleman, and Alister MacDonnell who received silver medals in a hockey tournament over the weekend in Corner Brook.
The junior kindergarten classes enjoyed taking part in the Christmas concert and making crafts this week. Their helping hands project officially ended on Thursday. They would like to thank everyone for their donations. These items will be give to the Corner Brook Rotary Club for distribution to families in need.
Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class is learning about community helpers in social studies. They worked hard for the Christmas concert and are so happy it was a big success. They are excited to announce that their seeds have sprouted. They have planted pepper, cucumber, and pea plants.
Mrs. George’s grade one English class is learning about their sense in science class. They really enjoyed the Christmas concert last night and are busy doing Christmas writing and crafts. The star of the week is Charlea. They would like to wish a happy 6th birthday to Rhylan.
Mme. Ryan’s grade one and two French Immersion class is beginning their French Christmas vocabulary this week. They worked on letters to Santa after reading a story about a penguin’s letter to Santa.
Ms. Cunning’s grade two English class is cluing up numbers to 100 in math and are enjoying Christmas activities. They are currently writing Christmas poems, making tree crafts and reading a Christmas book everyday.
Mme. Moss’ grade three, four, five and six French Immersion class is preparing for their unit tests in math. They are working diligently on their Christmas stories. They are also preparing to start new units in science.
Mrs. Bishop’s grade three class is creating graphs and charts in math class as part of their data unit. Their focus is on a Christmas movie survey.
Ms. Guy’s grade four class has completed their class story. They are eager to read their story to the grade one class. The students enjoyed taking part in the school Christmas concert on Thursday evening.
Mr. Ryley’s grade five class is very excited to be in the first stage of the Christmas concert. In language arts the class is reading Number the Stars.
Mrs. McCarthy’s grade six class is reading Bridge to Terabithia in language arts class. Next week they will have a class race to see who is the fastest kid in the sixth grade.
Mr. Drew Nadon’s grade seven and eight class is preparing for a fraction unit test in math. The class has finished their novel study on Freak the Mighty. They are beginning short focus on listening and speaking in language arts.
Mr. Hancock’s grade nine to level three class had a great time in St. John’s. They particularly enjoyed the visit to the House of Assembly and learning about the Speaker of the House. Science 1206 students are learning about ionic compounds and how to name them. Biology 2201 students are learning about characteristics of the six kingdoms of living things.
Santa will be visiting our school on December 4th to take photos with all of our classes.
Our school will host a live and silent auction on December 7th with all proceeds going to the physical education program.
Our Brazilian ensemble will be performing at a function in Pasadena this Sunday evening.
