On Friday afternoon Mr. Drew Nadon accompanied Candace Johannesen, Anna Mackenzie, Kate Murphy, Max Pittman, and Nikola Verbiski to present a cheque to the Western Regional Memorial Hospital Foundation for the Radiothon.  We will have a total amount next week as we are still collecting donations from our medical theme day.

This week Western Memorial nursing students visited IHMS to present sessions on hand washing and healthy eating to our Kindergarten, grade two, and grade three classes.

Basketball skills development continued this week for grades three to six students.

The week of the 8th to 13th is Fire Prevention Week in the City of Corner Brook. We held a practice fire drill procedure this week to prepare. We are pleased to report that the drill went well.

Today we are enjoying our annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner as a school community. We are feeling very blessed to be able to celebrate this holiday together.

Class News

The junior kindergarten classes are making Thanksgiving crafts and having fun in their newly designed playground.

Mrs. Hodder’s Kindergarten English class enjoyed a hand washing session from Western Memorial nursing students on Tuesday. They are learning about pilgrims and the first thanksgiving. They are also talking about the things they are thankful for in their lives.

Mrs. George’s grade one English class is writing thankful thoughts this week and making cornucopias. They are really looking forward to the turkey dinner prepared by Colemans. They would like to wish all of our readers a happy Thanksgiving.

Mme. Ryan’s grade one and two French Immersion class is working on Thanksgiving items including: vocabulary, centers, math, writing, songs, and art. They have harvested a pumpkin from the school garden this week!

Ms. Cunning’s grade two English class enjoyed a healthy eating presentation from Western Memorial nursing students this week. They are looking forward to the Thanksgiving Day dinner today. They made turkey themed crafts this week. The class is counting down to Halloween with special Halloween activities.

Mme. Moss’ grade three, four, five and six French Immersion class is enjoying daily five activities. The grade three and four students are focusing on according adjectives with nouns in their Français class. The grade five and six students are learning about the circulatory system, bloods, and hemophilia in science this week.

Mrs. Bishop’s grade three class has been investigating soil from their home gardens and yards this week. They are recording their observations on the texture, colour, and ingredients.

Ms. Guy’s grade four class is getting into the Thanksgiving spirit by creating thankfulness turkeys for their classroom door.

Mr. Ryley’s grade five class had an archaeological dig this week to conclude their first unit in social studies. In language arts they are writing about wishes that would annoy genies.

Mrs. McCarthy’s grade six class is making parachutes in science class. They have finished reading their book “The Tree of Life”. They had their first math quiz on Thursday.

Mr. Drew Nadon’s grade seven and eight class have started their integer units in math. The students have begun to prepare for the Lego Robotics and Intermediate Skills Challenge coming up in November.

Mr. Hancock’s grade nine to level three class was busy writing tests this week in mathematics and language arts. The students are looking forward to the long weekend for Thanksgiving. Today the Brazilian students will enjoy their first IHMS Thanksgiving Day Dinner.

Coming Up

School will be closed on Monday, October 9 in observance of Thanksgiving Day.
