On Oct. 13, a group of people gathered outside the home of the Short family in Deer Lake wearing red and white striped socks for Sock it for sick kids.

They were there to raise awareness of the Ronald McDonald House and the families who find support there as their sick children receive treatment at the Janeway Children’s Hospital in St John’s.

Michael and Sarah Short have spent a lot of time at Ronald McDonald house since their young daughter, Isla, was diagnosed with childhood cancer. They are just one of many families who know the benefits of Ronald McDonald house support. The family was home with Isla earlier his week but they had to return to the Janeway on Thursday to have Isla’s medical needs seen to.

The event streamed over the Internet so that Isla could see her family, neighbours and friends singing her favourite songs.
