A couple of areas of the Riverside Drive overpass leading from the Lewin Parkway and the Humber Road/Main Street intersection in Corner Brook have been crumbling concrete and showing exposed reinforced steel. Maintenance of the infrastructure is the responsibility of the provincial Department of Transportation and Works.
The Western Star has inquired into whether the overpass has been assessed recently and if there were any concerns or planned maintenance work, but the department was still looking into those questions as of deadline Wednesday.
Last year, the province had to conduct maintenance on the nearby Lewin Parkway overpass after a chunk of concrete fell and struck a vehicle on Main Street below. There is no road under the Riverside Drive overpass, but there is a parking area and a walking trail.
