CHANNEL-PORT AUX BASQUES – Marine Atlantic will once again offer a shuttle bus service to the Scott’s Cove area of Channel-Port aux Basques for its customers this summer.

“Our partnership with the Town of Channel-Port aux Basques on this initiative has been very well received by our customers and the community,” Don Barnes, Marine Atlantic’s vice president of customer experience, said in a news release today, May 22.

Marine Atlantic and the town have offered the service from the terminal building to Scott’s Cove, where there are shops and live entertainment, as a pilot project for the past two summers.

“We have heard the positive feedback from our customers with many feeling this has enhanced their overall travel experience,” Barnes said.

“We look forward to the benefits of this continued service and are hoping that even more people take the opportunity to visit the Scott’s Cove area this coming summer.”

Coun. Jim Lane, chair of the town’s Marine Atlantic sub-committee, said the goal is to continue to give tourists a special experience.

“A tourism ambassador will meet passengers at the access gate and we will work with the vendors at the park to strengthen their knowledge of the area and the many attractions we have to offer in our quaint little town,” Lane said.

“This is a great opportunity for the downtown core and for the business community. We are very optimistic that this will be another successful tourism season. The partnership we have created with Marine Atlantic and the support they have shown to us has been highly valued.”

Safety and security measures to protect customers, employees and operations will again be a top priority, the news release stated, and Marine Atlantic will continue to work with Transport Canada so that all security regulations are met.

Due to operational, docking and fueling activities, all individuals wanting to access Scott’s Cove must use the shuttle bus service.

New marketing initiatives are in the works to provide customers with information about the bus service before and after they arrive at the terminal.

The results of the service will once again be evaluated after the season.
