GANDER, N.L. – An unavailability of audiologists has resulted in the diversion of audiology services from Grand Falls-Windsor to Gander for the next six months.

Services have been moved from the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre to James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre, according to an advisory from Central Health today, June 20.

The provincial hearing aid program, the universal newborn hearing screening program and routine hearing screening are affected by the change. Speech language pathology services are not and will still be available at the Grand Falls-Windsor hospital.

There may be longer wait times for some of the affected services, the Central Health advisory indicated.

Referrals that have already been submitted for audiology services at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre will be transferred to James Paton. All new referrals for audiology services during the diversion should be submitted to the hospital in Gander as well.

Central Health says it is currently recruiting for audiologists to restore audiology services in Grand Falls-Windsor.
