The Comic Strippers are a male stripper troupe made up of four Canadian improvisational comedians, and they’re making their way to Newfoundland.
“It’s a ridiculous show,” laughed one member, Ken Lawson. “It’s sort of a mix between ‘Who’s Line is it Anyway?’ and ‘Magic Mike’ … with dad bodies.”
The inspiration for the show came from one member’s wife, after she went to see “The Thunder from Down Under,” a male strip show, and said the crowd was going wild.
“We figured, we all have torsos and can dance around like idiots, so let’s do it,” Lawson said.
The group started putting on shows in their hometown of Vancouver, and it went so well that they decided to head to the Adelaide Fringe Festival in Australia.
“It just exploded,” said Lawson.
The Comic Strippers have been making their way across the country, and will land in Newfoundland on Wednesday.
“We played a show in Fort McMurray, and a lot of people in the crowd were Newfoundlanders,” said Lawson. “It really inspired us to bring the show here.”
The troupe’s Newfoundland schedule is:
Oct. 25: Corner Brook Arts and Culture Centre;
Oct. 26: Grand Falls-Windsor Arts and Culture Centre;
Oct. 27: Gander Arts and Culture Centre;
Oct. 28: St. John’s Arts and Culture Centre.
