The RCMP’s serious crime unit is investigating a robbery at a convenience store in Humber Arm South Thursday night.

According to storeowner Veronica Evoy, a masked man entered the store at around 9 p.m. and forced the female cashier to give him all the bills in the register.

Evoy said the clerk was frightened, but not hurt, in the incident.

Evoy had still not calculated how much money was taken Friday morning, but said the register would have had all the revenue from the entire day of business.

A description of the suspect was not available Friday morning. Evoy said the clerk, who was too shaken to do an interview, would likely have given a description to police, but Evoy did not have those details herself.

The RCMP, meanwhile, declined to make any comment when contacted Friday morning, saying they would be issuing a media release later in the day that would include any details they were prepared to discuss.

The police said they hoped to include a description of the robber in the release.

When the release was issued Friday afternoon, the suspect was described as being around five feet, five inches tall, with a small build and blue eyes.

The convenience store located on Main Road in the community of Benoit’s Cove was back open for business Friday morning.
