Corner Brook city council appointed a number of representatives to external boards and committees during its public meeting Monday evening.
Deputy Mayor Bill Griffin was chosen to represent council on the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority’s board of directors, the only committee appointment made Monday that involves remuneration.
Griffin joins the city’s second representative, lawyer Dean Porter, who was previously appointed.
Coun. Tony Buckle was chosen as the city’s nomination for consideration to be the urban and western region director of the Municipal Assessment Agency’s board of directors. The 10-member board includes six municipal representatives, who are eventually elected by the agency’s municipal clients.
Should Buckle get the nod as one of those six municipal representatives, that position would also include remuneration.
Other appointments approved Monday included selecting Buckle and Coun. Josh Carey to represent Corner Brook on the Great Humber Joint Council, Coun. Linda Chaisson to the Corner Brook Downtown Business Association’s board of directors and Coun. Vaughn Granter to the Rotary Arts Centre’s board of directors.
The following is a list of previously made appointments of council members to serve as chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of various internal city committees:
- Finance and administration committee: Coun. Josh Carey (chair), Coun. Bernd Staeben (vice-chair)
- Public works committee and wastewater: Coun. Tony Buckle (chair), Coun. Vaughn Granter (vice-chair)
- Engineering, development, and planning committee: Coun. Linda Chaisson (chair), Deputy Mayor Bill Griffin (vice-chair)
- Protective services committee: Coun. Bernd Staeben (chair), Deputy Mayor Bill Griffin (vice-chair)
- Civic centre oversight committee: Coun. Tony Buckle (chair), Coun. Vaughn Granter (vice-chair)
