Dillon Joseph Bourgeois, 25, was in Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in Corner Brook on Thursday morning for the start of his trial on an armed robbery charge.
Bourgeois is accused of participating in an armed robbery at Corner Brook Esso on Main Street on July 2, 2015. Ashley Park, the person who carried out the actual robbery, was sentenced to 42 months in jail in October 2015 after entering guilty pleas to the robbery related offences and other outstanding charges. Bourgeois, who is currently serving a five-year sentence for the aggravated assault of Park’s brother, Jonathan Park, was not charged with the gas station robbery until November 2016.
He is being tried by judge alone and the first day of his trial saw the attendant on duty the night of robbery and a Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officer involved in the investigation testify. The court also viewed videos of caution statements given by Bourgeois to the police.
In the first statement he denied knowing who the masked man was that robbed the gas station or in having any involvement in the crime.
His trial continues today.
