More than three-quarters of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are likely to not purchase cannabis products when it comes legal later this year.
An MQO Research poll of 400 adult residents conducted between April 21 to May 9 found that 14 per cent of respondents are not likely to make cannabis purchases with 63 per cent saying it was not likely at all.
Of the 22 per cent who are very likely or somewhat likely, 54 per cent said they’ll make their purchases at a retail location while 31 per cent suggested they would purchase online.
The poll also determined there are differing viewpoints depending on gender, age and region of the province.
Among men, 25 per cent say they are considering it, compared to 19 per cent among women.
Not surprisingly, 37 per cent of respondents in the 18 to 34 age group are open to the idea whereas only 13 per cent of those 55 and older.
The regional numbers for those who are very likely or somewhat likely to purchase cannabis are:
- 26 per cent in St. John’s
- 20 per cent in Eastern
- 18 per cent in Central
- 8 per cent in Western and Labrador
