UPDATED: Man involved in fight had concealed steak knife

CORNER BROOK  A city resident is in police custody after being charged with carrying a concealed weapon in Corner Brook early this morning.

Ryan Lidstone, 28, was arrested after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary responded to a report of a fight outside a bar on Main Street at around 3:05 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious man who was transported to Western Memorial Region Hospital by ambulance for what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries. While at the hospital, medical personnel found a steak knife in the pocket of his clothing.

Police said in a press release Friday that they do not believe the knife was used during the altercation.

Lidstone was charged with carrying a weapon dangerous to the public, carrying a concealed weapon and breaching a court order. The RNC said there may be further charges as a result of the ongoing investigation. He appeared in provincial court later Friday and was released on an undertaking to appear in provincial court again Dec. 3. The RNC did not provide any information about the second man involved in the altercation.
