STEPHENVILLE  As a former officer with Traffic Services West, Const. Sam Munden has attended a number of moose/vehicle accidents, but early Tuesday morning he was in one himself.

Sgt. Cathy Whitehead said Munden, who now works general policing with the Bay St. George RCMP, hit a moose while out on patrol in his police cruiser at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Whitehead said Munden luckily came out of the accident with only stiffness and soreness. The same could not be said for the moose, which died at the scene of the accident just several kilometers east of Black Duck Siding on White’s Road.

While police hadn’t received an estimate of damages to the cruiser Tuesday afternoon, Whitehead said the car appears to be a write-off as the moose went into the windshield and even curled back the roof.
