City man wants prime minister charged with advocating for genocide

Andrew Abbass has filed a complaint with the Corner Brook RNC alleging that Prime Minister Stephen Harper is advocating for genocide in his support for Israel.

Andrew Abbass didn’t quite know what to expect when he walked in the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary’s Corner Brook headquarters on Monday morning.

Abbass was there to file a complaint.

Nothing unusual there for the police force, but the focus of his complaint was a little out of the ordinary.

Abbass is seeking to have Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird charged with advocating for genocide.

“They accepted it and filed the case,” he said shortly after leaving the RNC.

His complaint, which also alleges creation and dissemination of propaganda, breach of public trust and uttering threats, stem from comments Harper and Baird have made about the ongoing Israeli conflict.

“In painting Hamas and the people of Gaza as a terrorist organization they’re basically sanctioning the killing of civilians,” said Abbass.

He’s put together a document that outlines the reasons for the requested charges that can be found via a link in an online petition at http://www.change.org/en-CA/petitions/rcmp-arrestharperandbaird4hatespeech-under-criminalcodesections318and319?share_id=OolYnQmYdr&utm_campaign=friend_inviter_chat&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition&utm_term=permissions_dialog_false.

The document includes a video titled “Through Fire and Water,” http://youtu.be/hq8MN0OBEO4, that Abbass describes as hate propaganda published by the Conservative Party of Canada.

The video references parts of a speech Harper made recently to the Israeli Knesset. During the speech Harper said that Canada supports Israel fundamentally and pledges to stand with Israel “through fire and water.”

“I’m Canadian,” said Abbass when asked why he decided to seek legal action against Harper and Baird.

“I realize that we provide a bigger role in providing a moral compass for the West than like America does. Canada has always been the conscientious objector to using military action against civilians.”

Abbass said that’s what’s happening in Israel right now, where 25 per cent of the causalities are children, and that Harper is advocating for it.

Abbass has studied at Memorial University and has met people from all over world.

“In talking about it we all realized that the people over there are fighting over stupid shit,” he said. “And it’s not our place to get in there and say you’re morally right or your morally wrong and you deserve to die.”

Abbass said the comments of Harper and Baird reflect on Canada.

He said there have been protests about it in Canada that have resulted in violence between Muslim and Jewish Canadians.

“It’s created division between us,” Abbass said. “It’s going to deepen division between religions.”

He said the end result is that the Canadian reputation is going to be tarnished and Canadians will become endangered overseas.

“You know we’re going to lose our reputation as a peacemaker,” said Abbass.

“Canadian prime ministers have always followed the rule of law when dealing with international situations and Stephen Harper has let his moral and religious beliefs get in the way of that.”

While Abbass filed his complaint with the local RNC it won’t be this force that investigates.

Const. Scott Mosher, the RNC’s media relations officer in the city, confirmed the file has been passed over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Mosher said that’s procedure for complaints of this nature. It had to be filed with the RNC first because it has jurisdiction over the city, and this is where Abbass lives.

“Our role in this would be to forward the information,” said Mosher. He added if there is any other support the RNC can offer it will.

Mosher agreed the complaint is a bit unusual for the city force.

“Not unusual in the sense we’ve received a complaint that has to be forwarded to another agency for investigation,” Mosher said.

In this case, he said, it’s the nature of the complaint and the people involved that’s out of the norm.

Andrew Abbass started the process Monday morning that could see Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird charged with advocating for genocide.

Abbass took his evidence against the two to the Corner Brook Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

He left with a file number and an assurance the RNC would look into the matter and pass it on to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His complaint, which also alleges creation and dissemination of propaganda, breach of public trust and uttering threats, had to be filed with the RNC because it has jurisdiction over the city, of which Abbass is a resident.

His actions stem from comments Harper and Baird have made about the ongoing conflict in Israel.

“In painting Hamas and the people of Gaza as a terrorist organization they’re basically sanctioning the killing of civilians,” said Abbass.

Abbass's complaint references a speech Harper made recently to the Israeli Knesset. During the speech Harper said that Canada supports Israel fundamentally and pledges to stand with Israel “through fire and water.”

“Canadian prime ministers have always followed the rule of law when dealing with international situations and Stephen Harper has let his moral and religious beliefs get in the way of that,” said Abbass.

He's an Evangelical Christian who believes that the sooner the Armageddon happens the sooner the Rapture will come. However, NONE of this happen unless Israel is protected. Jail? The man needs to be taken out by the men in the white coats and heavily medicated to protect society from HIM.

I'm against Hamas and the Jewish state in this situation! The people I feel bad for are the defenseless civilians on BOTH sides who have to stated they don't want this war!!! What we have are leaders with religious influences who are reacting, not leading! Both governments are acting little children and this is the problem when you throw religious ideology into the mix when governing a country! Let this be a lesson to us all .... to the pitfalls of organized religion and why its the true evil in the world! Get rid of theology and you eliminate the issues that divide us. We'd have a better world!

Andrew, I believe that you have put yourself in danger by taking this action. There is a very great risk that you and your family will be monitored by Canadian authorities such as CSIS. Canada is no longer a protector of human rights, and hasn't been for many years. Are you not aware of the strong bond between the Harper government and the government of Israel?

Am I supposed to live in fear because they want me to? Are we supposed to let these things go on in our name because some cheap schoolyard bully has been going around whispering hate in people's ears? Screw that. I won't be silent.

He is absolutely correct and he has my support. In fact, sign me up as well and let’s make this a class-action lawsuit. The federal government is not representing the Canadian people and they use our tax contributions to support and visit a state that is in defiance of UN security council resolutions more than any other state.

Hey Andrew. Hamas is a terrorist organization! It's not just Canada and the Harper government that says that, it's the whole international community from the US and France to the United Nations. There's no painting involved. Hamas has already filled everything in.

It is only under pressure from Jews in the U.S. State Department and the Israel lobby AIPAC that the United States government has designated Hamas as a "terrorist" organization. The truth is quite the contrary.

  • Mr.Roboto
    July 23, 2014 - 17:14

Why does Israel hate Hamas so much? Well, it might be because Hamas' stated goal is to completely annihilate Israel and every jewish person. This isn't something I'm making up or taking out of context either, the very charter of Hamas states ""The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (evidently a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews."" There's 4 examples of this in their very charter. There's no question Hamas is a terrorist organization, any organization that by philosophy seeks to wipe out an entire race is terrorist.

Well it sounds to me like MR.Harper knows his Bible. In the end days it says that nations will turn against Israel and the Lord will severely punish the nations that try to destroy Israel. This unsettling in the middle east in particular with Israel was predicted thousands of years ago, before the birth and death of Christ. The people and tribes of Israel have been subjects of persecution and wars since the dawn of creation. God chose Israel as his chosen country and he brought them through wars like no other and perform miracles and brought punishment against the nations that tried to take him out. I believe Mr.Harper knows this and is erring on the side of caution. Worse days are coming. I know people are going to shoot down this comment but it has to be said. So many people are uneducated in religion and biblical references and prophecy.

    • Andrew Abbass
      July 23, 2014 - 14:00

And you don't think that Germany attacking the Jews was the nations turning against Israel in the first place? And that maybe Mr. Harper is actually leading the wrong side?

      July 23, 2014 - 20:42

waitforit........ oh and now that the wait is over let's do this! First of all, there is no need to bring religion into this. Killing innocent people isn't promoted by any religion, and the truly righteous pricks who are doing this in the name of god to get the "promised land" or whatever are just plain cruel. It doesn't take a genius to realize that Israel is using brute force and especially one that is unnecessary... against a group of people who are simply not equal in terms of military might. You speak as if you're educated about religion, but then again any blind follower of any ideology will defend its ideas regardless of its flaws or illogical teachings.

Some religions don't even believe that the book of Revelations even belongs in the Bible. That aside....regardless of what Harper believes, he shouldn't be dragging Canadians through his maniacal Rapture obsession. LOT of blood on his hands.

A lot of people here are misinformed about what's going on in Israel, I would consider them far from "defending themselves" against missles. They have a Iron Dome missle defense system, only one rocket from the Hamas was even able to get through and it damaged a road. While a supposedly advanced Isreali military murders palestine civilians with constant missile strikes, including four little boys just playing on a beach. Two of them were 9, one was 10 and the other 11. Maybe some of you should actually research into what's happening in the region instead of blindly listening to western media, form your own opinion and stop putting someone down for just trying to do something about what he sees as unjust.

If you knew the history of the region since 1948, and the injustice experienced by human beings there, maybe you would support him. • Joe
      July 22, 2014 - 22:52

Educate yourself fool. Israel has been harassing Palestinians in the west bank for decades. The settlements are illegal by international law, and those 3 jewish kids were killed by unknown people, no proof linked them to Hamas. They were probably revenge killing to the 2 Palestinian kids shot in cold blood just before that, which Israel denied and CNN caught them red handed on camera. Israeli kids then killed a Palestinian kid, made him drink gas and burnt him alive. Israel also then arrested more than 600 Palestinians. In the current attack on Gaza, Israel is accusing civilians as being human shields by redifining their war book and lableing anyone who is left behind after a warning a human shield and collateral damage. They shelled hospitals and schools giving absolutely NO evidence of there actually being Hamas or rockets there. The ammunition they are using are also against international law in civilian areas. Israel has blockaded Gaza since the last attack, and the blockade as per last deal was supposed to be lifted. It never was. Israel was also supposed to stop the settlements, but instead they have grown, and new ones popped up, all by theft of Palestinian land. Go educate yourself. Israel is the provoker, the thief, the murderer, and Harper is supporting it. Canada was a peace keeping country, not a country that supports murder, racism, and apartheid.

Hamas Islamist terrorists are responsible for the civilian losses. Their interest, by using civilian shield, is to protect the terrorist lives and to use civilian death as political and propaganda tool. 1: The defending Israel, for a couple of consecutive days, worn the civilians to departure from areas packed with Islamist terrorists. By: phone calls, pamphlets, small not dangerous and no explosive devises dropped on the area, radio and TV warnings. (Nobody in the human history took a similar combination to save life's) -- Hamas used Mosques megaphones, and direct treat of civilians heading for a safe place demanding the civilians to stay and disobey the Israeli warnings. 2:""keeping civilians in war zones and said they were leading them to their deaths,""" Said by Hamas spokesman.
