STEPHENVILLE  A 28-year-old Stephenville Crossing man is scheduled to attend Provincial Court in Stephenville today for a bail hearing facing 22 fraud charges and a breach of probation charge.

The man was arrested on Thursday, following an investigation by the Bay St. George RCMP from reports on Saturday that a man was soliciting for money falsely in the Stephenville and Bay St. George area.

An investigation revealed that a single man was falsely canvassing for money on behalf of breast cancer research. The investigation up to the time of the man’s arrest identified 22 victims of fraud, where residents gave money to this individual for that cause.

Police said the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Atlantic Region has requested that if the general public has any questions concerning this matter or their donation policies, that the organization can be contacted at (709) 368-0008.
