One person was taken to hospital following a single-vehicle accident on the north shore highway Tuesday morning.

The accident, involving a SUV, occurred just before 10 a.m. on a hill between the Wild Cove landfill site and the access road to Hughes Brook.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Corner Brook Fire Department responded to the incident and police officers on the scene say the vehicle was travelling towards Corner Brook. However, the vehicle went off on the opposite side of the road.

Skid marks can be seen on the pavement leading down the hill to the area the vehicle went over the embankment. It came to rest in an area filled with brush.

Police say only one person was injured and the extent of that person's injuries are not known at this time. The injured person was transported to Western Memorial Regional Hospital by ambulance. There was no indication given if there were more people in the vehicle.
