As of late Thursday night, there was still no word about who Newfoundland’s newest lotto millionaire is — and they may not even be from this province.

Atlantic Lottery Corporation issued a press release Thursday saying the winning $1 million 6/49 ticket was sold in Deer Lake on May 7.

Although the winning ticket was sold in the hub of the Humber Valley, the lotto corp’s Tracy Shute said the winner isn’t necessarily a resident of the area.

“It could very well be someone driving across the island who could be from anywhere,” she said.

When the lucky ticket holder does come forward, Shute said it typically takes several days of verification and security measures before the person is presented their winnings.

“If there is no issue, it’s usually about 48 hours or so from the time they contact us to when we present the cheque,” she said.
