Stephenville Crossing man killed after vehicle collides with moose

A 29-year-old Stephenville Crossing man is dead after his vehicle collided with a moose near St. George’s Saturday.

At approximately 11 p.m., members of the Bay St. George Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to a report of a vehicle discovered approximately 20 feet off the Trans-Canada Highway and down a slight embankment.

Police and crew with Russell’s Ambulance Services pronounced the driver dead at the scene and a 26-year-old female passenger from Stephenville Crossing was transported to the Sir Thomas Hospital in Stephenville where she was kept overnight with non-life threatening injuries.

Police investigation revealed that the collision with the moose occurred in the vehicle’s lane of travel on the highway and the vehicle sustained considerable damage as a result of the collision.

The police investigation into the matter is continuing.
