The City of Corner Brook’s chief executive officer Mike Dolter is off on leave, but there are little details as to why.

The leave came into effect Friday afternoon. Corner Brook Mayor Charles Pender confirmed it via email Monday.

“Mr. Dolter is currently on leave,” stated the mayor. “Out of respect for our employees, we don't discuss (human resources) matters in public.”

The mayor did not respond to further inquiries and would not do an interview.

When Dolter was asked if he is no longer working for the city, he did not directly answer the question.

“After the brief discussion I had with council, nothing has been decided as of yet,” he said via telephone from his home Monday morning.

Other members of Corner Brook city council were also not speaking on the issue. Couns. Keith Cormier and Josh Carey also confirmed Dolter is on leave, but repeated what the mayor said concerning council not discussing human resources matters.

The remaining councillors — Tony Buckle, Linda Chaisson, Mary Ann Murphy and Bernd Staeben — could not be reached or did not return messages as of deadline.

Dolter has been in the position of CAO since January 2005.
