The Corner Brook man charged with allegedly breaking into a home and assaulting a woman early Wednesday morning has been denied bail.

Patrick O'Flaherty, 45, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, around nine hours after police were called to a report of a disturbance in the Curling area of the city.

He was charged with break and entry, assault with a weapon, mischief to property and four breaches of a court order and held in custody. The 46-year-old woman O’Flaherty is accused of assaulting was an acquaintance of his and suffered minor injuries in the alleged incident.

A bail hearing before Judge Wayne Gorman in provincial court began Thursday and continued Friday morning.

Friday afternoon, Gorman decided to deny bail. O’Flaherty already had several other matters still outstanding before the courts, including charges of assault with a weapon, break and entry, uttering threats, mischief and court order breaches.

His next appearance in provincial court will be July 22.
