Effective Sept. 1 the City of Corner Brook will once again be the operator of the Pepsi Centre.

Mayor Charles Pender announced through a statement on his Facebook page Thursday afternoon that negotiations with current operators, Western Sports and Entertainment Inc., and Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland to terminate the university’s five-year lease on the centre have been concluded.

The lease will end on Aug. 31.

Pender also announced that the city plans to make a $100,000 investment in the revitalization of the building’s cosmetics and interior.

In the statement he said the investment into a fresh appearance to the facility will parallel the fresh approach the city will take to operating the facility.
