Kyler Vokey received a 12-month conditional sentence for theft of mail in provincial court in Corner Brook on Friday. Vokey, 23, of Corner Brook was arrested in May 2013 following an investigation after open mail was discovered discarded in the dumpster of a local business in March 2013. Vokey was employed as a driver with Canada Post at the time. The provincial Crown says Vokey took gift cards from the opened mail, but didn’t have an estimate on the value of the items stolen. Vokey was arrested after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received a report from Mark’s Work Wearhouse of someone making a purchase using one of the stolen gift cards. Vokey is seen on the store’s video making the purchase. At the completion of his 12-months house arrest sentence, Judge Kymil Howe ordered Vokey to also serve 12-months probation.
