The Stephenville Dome will soon be equipped with new LED lighting.

Mayor Tom O’Brien said at this past Thursday’s regular general meeting of the Stephenville town council that Jenco Electric Ltd. out of Mount Pearl has been awarded the contract to do the work.

He said the work will be ongoing and carried out without a disruption to activities at the facility. O’Brien said the contract is for approximately $100,000 and will involve installing the new LED lighting over the arena ice surface and replacing exterior lights.

“From an environmental standpoint, it’s the right thing to do and this lighting will burn a lot less power helping to reduce operating costs,” he said.

The work is expected to get underway soon.
